Last Week we had our big class trip to Broad Stairs Beach!!
What a fun day we had, and Year 1 can’t wait to tell you and show you more about in their assembly!
We went by Coach with Year 2, and whilst it took a while to get there the children were lucky to watch films on the way there, AND back. We even had a tour of central London whilst making our way to the seaside, and saw lots of key London sites very early in the morning.
Once we were at Broadstairs we ate our lunch with everyone in the class, and all the mums and dads who met us there. We had to be careful of the seagulls but a class picnic was a great way to start our day. We headed to the beach and took our shoes and socks off, put our toes in the warm sand and had a great day! We had a sandcastle competition, working in groups with parent helpers to collect water from the sea, or shells and seaweed to decorate their sandcastles. The Broadstairs life guards were the judges! Everyone worked so well together in groups, and all made very impressive sand castles!
After this, Year 1 was able to go and paddle in the sea! We all walked down together as a class, and had a shock that the water was so cold!! Everyone paddled in the sea and had fun jumping the waves. Once we were in it didn’t seem so cold, and was an amazing experience to all be together in the sea as a class. Children all had so much fun, and the waves were quite strong so we got a little wet, but that is all part of the fun!
Then (once we had changed and were nice and dry) we sat on the sand and had some time to do Geography! Year 1 and 2 were faced with the question: Which physical geographical features can I see at Broadstairs? We had a list of features and had to decide which ones we could see. We decided that we could see the sea, the beach, the coast and cliffs too. Unfortunately, there were no rivers or mountains to be seen! After this, we drew our very own maps. We marked a cross where we sat, drew the sea and the cliffs (and labelled them too) and also included any human features that we could see, such as beach huts.
We had some lovely time to play in the sand and play games with our families and friends, before walking down the beach to get some ice-cream!! We had a nice walk along the smooth sand, and waited whilst Miss Carruthers and parents kindly got our ice-creams from a local shop. Unfortunately the seagulls could see that it was time for a snack, so we did well to hide from them and enjoy our ice-creams and take some lovely class photos!
Then it was time to get back on the coach, and watch some more films whilst discussing what an amazing day we had at the beach!
We would like to thank Miss Carruthers for organising our trip and we’d like to thank the parent volunteers that came along with us! Thank you to the SVPA for funding our trip to Broadstairs, we had a brilliant day.
It was fun to go on my first long journey on a coach with the class. The sand castle competition was the best and the ice cream was delicious!
Thank you for our wonderful trip to Broadstairs and the ice cream 🍦 and all the wonderful activities
Hi year 1, it looks like you had a lot of fun on that trip!
