To enhance our learning all about our ‘Jungle’ topic in Reception, we had a visit from ZooLab!

Lucy from ZooLab took us on an exciting adventure to the rainforest where we discovered lots of different creatures that live in this habitat!

We met a giant African snail, Madagascar hissing cockroach, tarantula, white tree frog and a corn snake!

We learnt lots of new facts about the different creatures to develop our knowledge about living things that live in the jungle. We found out that African snails have hundreds of teeth, a hissing cockroach can run through fire and not get burnt and can hold their breath for up to 40 minutes under water. White tree frogs can change colour and camouflage to blend in with their natural habitat.

We also learnt the names of some of the different rainforests around the world including:
-Amazon rainforest located in South America
-Congo rainforest located in Africa
-Daintree rainforest located in Australia

We asked some really interesting questions and were very sensible when holding the different creatures.

A special thanks to ZooLab for such a wonderful experience today!

Reception which creature did you like meeting today?

My favourite part was the snake. The snake is long and the spider was a little scary and the snail was slimy and the first cockroach was fast and then the second cockroach was a bit calmer.

  2. EEEEEEEVVVVVRRRYYYYTHING was my favourite, especially holding the snake. It was slimy but cold. I even wanted to hold the tarantula but we weren’t allowed to touch it. We weren’t allowed to touch the frog but I wanted to take everything home. Lucy was very kind and she let us see everything and at the start we got to touch the snail and at the end we were allowed to touch the snake and wash our hands afterwards. And if we didn’t wash our hands and put our hands in our mouth then we would have had a bad tummy.Thank you Lucy 😘🤩😋🥰😇🥹😇😇😇

  3. I liked seeing the snake! I liked its colour. It was a nice snake

  4. I loved when we got to hold the giant snail. When I touched it it felt so slimy! And I loved the cockroach because it could do super-hero things. Also, I loved the tree frog: it was so cute. And I wanted to go into Lucy’s sack full of animals. In the jungle and the rainforest they should live really happily! To see and hold the animals form the rain forest was so nice that I didn’t want them to go awaaaaayyyyy!

  5. I liked all of the creatures. I liked the snake because it felt smooth and I liked the snail because it was slimy. We learned that snails have one hundred teeth and tarantulas hear with their fur. It was lots of fun. 🐌🐍🕷️😍

  6. I was so happy that we get to hold all animals, the snail was my favourite!

  7. The snake in the picture looks so cool. I hope you all had fun!
